As he grows into a teenager on the streets of the Bronx in the socially turbulent 1960s, Calogero (Lillo Brancato) gets taken under the wing of neighborhood mobster Sonny (Chazz Palminteri). Akash A I was expecting a crime film and I got a coming of age film.Call me crazy but I did not see the appeal to this movie.Maybe I had the wrong expectations, but it did not feel like the genre marketed as.Robert DeNiro as a father was...a weird look, albeit a welcome change. But, the plot didn't really hook me. Narration from a kid was unique, but again, more indicative of a coming of age film than a crime film.Less crime elements and more coming of age elements.Thanks but I don't need to be taught how to live today.I also wasn't a fan of the prejudice / racial elements - though I understand it was prevalent then.Didn't see the appeal to this movie. The film portrays events that took place and how there were gangster issues as well as racial issues during the 60's. The film incorporates costumes and music to reflect the lifestyle in the film and how relationships were created and destroyed. I enjoyed this film a lot and I became attached to the characters by the end of the movie. If you like action and violence, this is the perfect film for you.
