Investigating Inside The Temple: Getting Started

Facing the South Span Checkpoint, the Open Hand Temple is in Rivington on the left side of the main road. Enter, and you'll learn that Father Lorgan, leader of this establishment, has been murdered.

An investigator working the case, Valeria, can be found near the altar in the main congregation room. He's speaking with a halfling woman.

Listen in on their conversation and then speak with the woman, Sister Yannis. Accept her request to look further into the matter and succeed where the investigator failed.

There are several points of investigation to find within the temple. Your first stop should be in the further room through the left door where a woman is looking after Father Lorgan's body.

Speak with the woman and ask her how Father Lorgan died.

For the next two points of evidence, you should find a way to access or use the spell Speak with Dead. Cast it on Lorgan, and ask these questions:

  1. Who killed you?
  2. Why did he kill you?
  3. What were you doing when you died?
  4. Why were you hiding Brilgor?
  5. Where did you hide him/Where were you attacked?

After, travel to the graveyard area behind the temple. Turn left once you enter the graveyard proper and on the right side of the small building, you'll find a grave marked Brilgor.

Dig up Brilgor's grave and cast Speak with the Dead. Ask him these questions:

  1. Why was he helping you?
  2. Who killed you?
  3. How did you die?
  4. Where did you die?
  5. Were you alone when you died?

After questioning both of the deceased, enter the kitchen area of the temple. You can choose to speak with the cook, but he doesn't have anything helpful to add.

Open the wooden hatch in the kitchen where the blood stains lead and travel below.

Follow the blood in the basem*nt area until you reach a large prayer room. Continue directly across the room to open a wooden door.

Inside the next pantry, you will find several lootable containers, including a display case that is booby-trapped. Loot it, and then turn your camera to look at the gaping hole behind the bookshelf.

Jump over to the hole and then across the gap on the other side. Follow the new path until you reach a split.

We advise you travel left to the stone dead end. You can open a shortcut door by using the lever to the left of it.

This lever can be tricky to see, but you do not need a check to find or highlight it. We recommend, if you cannot see it, to press Left ALT when playing on PC or press in the Left Joystick when playing on controller.

Once you've opened the shortcut, go back to the splitting path and take the stony path on the right side (not the side on the wooden platforms leading to the speaking people ahead).

In the area with the lootable crates and boxes, toggle the Group Hide function. You can then sneak up behind the talking individuals and attack them; they'll be hostile no matter what you do.

Each of these enemies are Shapeshifters. They're not too much of a hassle, but their Morphic Ambush can be annoying to deal with for its raw damage.

Take them out, and then loot all of their corpses. One will have the needed "Key with a Flower Motif" item.

For the murder weapon, you'll need to pass a passive Perception check as you walk toward past the arranged corpses and toward the large, open doorway at the base of this area. Stillmaker can be found inside the found hole.

The arranged corpses will have the torso of Dribbles the Clown, an item required for the optional miniquest.

Wyrm's Crossing: Where To Use The Flower Key

To continue this questline, you'll need to make your way into Wyrm's Crossing. This means you'll need to get past the gate guards of South Span Checkpoint somehow.

If you speak with the guards, you'll be attacked by the Steel Watch if you sided against the Absolute in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. In this case, we recommend casting a level five Invisibility spell and walking through the checkpoint.

On the other side, enter the first large building on the left where customers can be found speaking outside. The building is called Flaygo's Flophouse.

Walk upstairs and into the room on the right where you can find a ladder leading to the attic.

There are two vampire spawn speaking on the second floor as well. Speaking with these vampires will progress the Astarion and Cazador questline.

In the attic, interact with the wardrobe to unlock it with the Flower Key. This will transport you inside a secret attic room where you must gather the following, important pieces of evidence:

  • A diagram of the Open Hand Temple schematics on the table right of the entrance.
  • A list of murder suspects to the left of the schematics on the table.
  • A blood stain beside the bed that, after Investigation reveals Ffion's (the Stern Librarian's) body.

To finish the quest, head across the street from Fraygo's Flophouse to Sharess' Caress.

You can speak with the manager of Sharess' Caress about Ffion and possibly receive some compensation for undertaking her mini-quest, and after, go upstairs one flight and find Valeria sitting at the table.

You can share with Valeria all your points of investigation, but only one will end the quest:

"Father Lorgan's murder is just one part of a bigger plot, a Bhaal plot."

Baldur's Gate 3: Solve The Open Hand Temple Murders Quest Walkthrough (13)

Share with Valeria what you've discovered with the target list and then state that you have the proof to prove the Bhaal plot.

Valeria shall give you a pass to the Lower District which you can use to enter the larger area of the city. The quest is finished from here, but it continues in a new quest, "Investigate the Murders," which will begin when you enter the Lower City, enter the Elfsong Tower, and speak with Gauntlet Devella Fountainhead.
