When Mark Zuckerberg was 10 years old, his father began teaching him how to code. He used an Atari Video Computer System to learn BASIC. After that, his family eventually bought a computer, and his dad gave him C++ for Dummies so he could start learning on his own.
He had created an intranet for the family home before starting high school that enabled for communication. Later, he turned this idea into ZuckNet, a messaging program for his father’s dentistry practice. This not only strengthened his abilities but also fueled his passion for entrepreneurship.
High School
Zuckerberg had hundreds of hours of coding experience by the time he entered high school. David Newman, a seasoned software developer, was also in charge of him.
With the coding expertise he had already acquired, Zuckerberg advanced the situation along with his classmate Adam D’Angelo, who would later become Facebook’s CTO. They created the music app Synapse, which offered suggestions based on your prior listening habits and musical interests. Basically a pre-Spotify.
Microsoft, AOL, and Win Amp all made million-dollar bids for the application, but it was refused. He was creating difficult platforms that would let him continue to hone his coding abilities using the techniques he had learned in his childhood years.
According to Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers, Mark Zuckerberg was a prodigy even before enrolling in college.
Using the Atari Video Computer System, Mark Zuckerberg learned the first programming language he ever used, BASIC. One of the few console cartridges that weren’t a game was the BASIC interpreter. In BASIC, he created the messaging program ZuckNet, which his father uses in his dentist’s office.
He then continued learning C++ with the aid of a book titled C++ for Dummies that his father had given to him. He and Adam de Angelo used C++ to code the $2 million music application they created.
After entering college, Zuckerberg began utilizing PHP. Then, PHP and MYSQL were used to build the initial version of Facebook.
