"I got a call from my sister Carolyn Manta earlier this week from her home in Seattle. She told me that Michelle Aronson had passed. She started to cry. She said she doesn’t know why this is hitting her so hard. She hasn’t talked or seen her in some time. She said maybe because she has twins of her own, she didn’t know. We sat in the silence.Here is my guess. In my view, relationships are on a spectrum. Some are long but on the outskirts. Maybe like the cashier at the grocery store you’ve been going to for years. You see them once a week, maybe you say hi or exchange small talk or just smile but they are a constant in your life. Some relationships are short but run hot like maybe a boyfriend you had in your 20’s that you spent every waking moment with until you suddenly didn’t anymore.Michelle came into my sister’s life when she needed a friend. For all you youngsters reading this, they were “besties”. They did those things that high school girls did. Talked on the phone, hung out after school, gossiped, talked about guys, parties on the weekend, ate lunch together in the school cafeteria. Michelle was more to Carolyn then she probably knew. Michele is who my sister shared her secrets with, her fears, her insecurities, her triumphs. For a time, she was her “go to gal.” She was fortunate to have Michelle in her life. I don’t know what their relationship was like after high school. I think her passing is effecting my sister in such a profound way because she had such a deep impact on her and that even if their relationship now isn’t like it was then, she lost a “go to gal” and knows so did a lot of other people.Sometimes we just don’t know how we touch each others lives and sometimes we do. Thank you Michelle for being my sister’s friend and “go to gal.”May her memory be eternal."
