Your CIBC account information includes:
Branch transit number
This is the 5-digit number that identifies your home CIBC Banking Centre.
Institution number
Every financial institution in Canada has its own unique 3-digit number. The institution number (bank number) for CIBC is 010.
Bank account number
This is a 7-digit number that’s used to refer to one of your uniquedeposit or Personal Line of Credit accounts.
Ways to find your transit number and account number
Do it online
- Sign on to CIBC Online Banking® and go to “My Accounts.”
- Find the number associated with your deposit or Personal Line of Credit account which appears in the format xxxxx-yy-yyyyy: the first 5-digit number [xxxxx] is the transit number and the last 7-digit number [yy-yyyyy] is the bank account number.
- Check your CIBC accounteStatement.
Check the number at the bottom of your cheque
This number contains your account's information.
- The transit number is 5 digits.
- The institution number is 3 digits.
- The account number is 7 digits.

Why do I need this information?
Employers, government agencies and other businesses might require your account information to set up a link to your account to transfer funds electronically.
How to send your account information
- Provide a void cheque.
- Download the Payroll, Direct Deposit or Pre-Authorized Payment Form (PDF, 180 KB) Opens in a new window.
- Manually input your account information, sign the form and send it to the requestor.
- Sign on to CIBC Online Banking and print your Account Information form with pre-filled account details:
Sign on to CIBC Online Banking.
Select the desired deposit account in “My Accounts.”
Select “Manage My Account” then select “Void Cheque / Direct Deposit Info” in “Deposit Account Details.”
Verify your account information in the pop-up window and select “Print.”
