History

In an experiment done based on the DNA samples of 1322 coconuts from around the world to check their relatedness, it was found that most of the coconuts descended from two genetic lines. One of these was from India and the other was from Southeast Asia

To come to the history of Coconuts specifically in Florida, the Spanish Brig Providencia en route from Cuba to Spain was shipwrecked on the shores of Florida on January 8th in 1878. The settlers at Florida saw this as an opportunity and planted the 20,000 coconuts which were found in the wreck. That was how the coconut had reached Florida.
